Everybody knows that the most beneficial foods we can eat are whole grains, lean meats and healthy fats. These are the foods that should give us the energy and protein we need. They help our bodies be balanced without infusing a bunch of calories that we will have to work extra hard to burn off at the gym. Did you realize though that a number of the diet foods you've been consuming may have been hindering your ability to lose weight? They could possibly be even adding fat laden calories to your body! Here are a few of the foods that might be undermining your diet efforts.

You usually are not actually served by Sports Drinks. You've most likely been told that if you need to help your body rejuvenate itself after a work out, you should drink a sports drink. Many medical professionals agree, nevertheless, that if your workout is less than ninety minutes, water is a fine way to do this. Sports drinks are full of sugar and calories and a massive amount of other things you don't need like artificial flavors and colors which defeat any attempts at eating only natural products. Try drinking some chocolate milk as an alternative. The sugars within the chocolate can help your muscles start to recover and the calcium in milk keeps your bones strong.

You do not need protein shakes. Lots of people feel that protein shakes may be used instead of meals and to curb cravings between meals. When you are eating an otherwise healthy diet, however, a protein shake simply sends you into protein overdose. Contrary to popular opinion, protein doesn't get kept as muscle, it gets stored as fat. If you've already eaten your daily allotment of protein that day, your whole body will just store the extra in your fat cells for later and that won't help you drop pounds or inches.

Pre-packaged deli meat isn't as healthy for you as you may think. You might think that a sandwich made of whole wheat bread and pre-packaged lean deli meat makes for a good lunch. Actually, pre-packaged deli meat has much too many preservatives as well as sodium (one helping contains about a third of the amount of sodium you should eat in a day). This can be particularly risky if you are at risk for heart disease. Rather than purchasing pre-packaged deli meat, select some home cooked chicken or the deli meat that is newly sliced at your deli counter. Yes you'll shell out more money for these choices but you will be healthier if you choose them.

There are lots of things that we imagine are healthier than others like choosing a whole wheat bagel each morning when the truth is that a bowl of cinnamon sprinkled oatmeal is a much healthier choice. Ask your physician which elements are the finest to eat and then follow the directions you are given. If you are careful about what you eat and are also good to your body, losing weight probably won't be all that big an issue.
