In these times of great scrutiny over physical appearances, a first impression is more important than ever. People will do practically anything to try to look younger, like they did many years earlier. Wrinkles and lines on the face are an unsightly and unwelcome sign of ageing, and many people are turning to the idea of getting injections of botox in order to help renew skin that is getting older looking.

Plastic surgery used to be the only real choice when someone wanted to alter their appearance to look younger, and this more drastic option is more of a commitment. The healing process from such an operation can go on for weeks. It would even take months before any sort of effect showed. But that era has now started to fade away, thanks to botox. In a report that was published by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in 2012, there was a marked increase in the use of minimally invasive cosmetic procedures such as botox injection, while there was a decline in the total number of cosmetic surgeries performed.

Why is this the case?

When an average person wants to improve their appearance, they can do this with botox without paying for highly expensive surgery. Complex cosmetic surgeries are just too expensive these days, and it comes as no surprise that the cheaper, safe and extremely effective botox injections are becoming more and more popular.

People who are in the higher social class are obviously more likely to have botox treatments, and this is helping to fuel a wider acceptance for the procedure. Media loves to print stories about famous people who appear to have had botox treatments.

How did botox get to be so mainstream?

It's safe to say that botox treatments are a huge part of modern cosmetic surgery clinics. The effective results on wrinkles and lines, coupled with the great speed and ease of the treatments as it's an out-patient procedure makes this a popular choice among patients. Its applications have these days extended well beyond just facial cosmetics, being now utilized in treating muscle spasm disorders such as blepharospasm and spastic paraplegias.

Benefits from these kinds of treatments are noticeable for months down the line. It has a positive effect on the confidence of the person, and there is a high chance that they would recommend it to a friend or family member.

With such advantages, it should not be surprising to hear that botox injection have now become part and parcel of our daily culture, boosting the confidence of millions and bringing out their inner glow!
